Who the heck are Picky & Fancy?

We're fabulous old friends. Our lives crossed paths back in our 20's starting out in advertising. Exploring the world of concept design, photography, art direction, and many a local bar and late night shoot. We've shared motherhood as moms of daughters and moved about in creative posts from coordinators, artist's agent to creative director.

Recently while selling one of our homes we decided to stage it ourselves and save the fee. So we dove into it room by room. That was fun, a lot of work - but we are not interested in becoming home stagers. It's too temporary. We want to help style up your life. Not just 30 days of it.

Of course, without a doubt we love shopping.

Not just regular shopping, but serious kick-ass sourcing. We don't mess around. We get into the details and set a criteria for every piece from the perfect ankle boot, to the best fall coat to cultivating our spaces from homes to condos with furnishings, housewares and art that make your guests ask "WHERE did you get that?!"

So it kinda occurred to us - since we love doing this - let's just do this. And Picky & Fancy was born.

Why did we call ourselves Picky & Fancy? Actually it came about from us poking fun at each other. One evening during a wine tasting one of us was so picky about the wines, it was like rejecting suitors left and right. (a.k.a. Picky.) Meanwhile, the other whipped out some fancy-schmancy kitchen gadget that sees the light of day once in a blue moon. (Meet Fancy) Who incidentally, has some fabulous finds. But that's Fancy for you. Oh, did we mention the shoe collection? And don't get Picky started about "lunch plates", you probably do need them. But hey, let's get back to you...

How picky are you about a fresh grind?

We all know that picky person who says, "I grind my own beans every morning."

(Eye roll, anyone?)

Whether you do or not, it's no biggie.

But eff that, if you want to silence the coffee snob next time, grab one of these grinders and stash it in your cupboard. (Insert wink here).

For your beans, your spices and your nuts. There, now you're getting fancy.

Getting tired of your old mug? treat yourself to a beautiful cup...

Not all mugs are created equal. There's something about the feel of the right mug in your hands, warm and familiar, that just quietly makes a moment complete. Years ago I had big beautiful mug my daughter hand painted for me at a clay place. The day it broke I was so sad. But I picked up the pieces and we just went to the clay place and made not one, but 2 entirely new ones for each other that we still enjoy today.

So make your own or treat yourself to something new. The joy of choosing these little things is so simple yet often so overlooked. Go on - fill your cup!

We look forward to sharing a cup with you!

This title really hit home for me! It reminded me of a time a few years ago when I felt like I was just going through the motions, not really sure what I was working towards or why. I ended up taking a solo trip, and spent a lot of time just observing people, wondering about their stories and motivations. It was surprisingly liberating to realize that we're all on our own unique journeys, trying to figure things out https://www.nytimes.com/2009/06/10/business/10poker.html?_r=13 That trip was a turning point for me, where I started actively questioning my own path and making more intentional choices. It's funny how sometimes stepping back and observing can lead to the deepest self-reflection. This post feels like it's…
